Adopt an Indie

Adopt Don’t Shop | इंडी अपनाओ, प्यार पाओ

Why Adopt an Indie ?

Indie dogs and cats are resilient, intelligent, and naturally adapted to our environment. They bond deeply with their families, require fewer medical interventions, and make loyal, loving companions. By adopting an Indie, you’re not just welcoming an animal into your home—you’re saving a life and helping reduce the stray animal crisis.

Our Adoption Philosophy

At Pashupati Foundation, we promote Indie adoption because we believe it is the most effective and impactful way to support stray animal welfare. Puppies, kittens, Adult Cats & Dogs available for adoption are regularly shared on our Instagram adoption handle and Facebook group, with the location of the animal and foster caregiver contact details mentioned in the caption. To adopt, please keep an eye on our social media adoption handles to find a baby available near your location. All adoptions are free of cost. However, we strongly encourage ethical and responsible adoptions only. Post-adoption, adopters are required to share updates by sending photos or videos, or by tagging our adoption handle on social media so we can continue to monitor the baby’s well-being.

Am I Ready to Adopt?

Adoption is a lifetime commitment, not a temporary act of kindness. If you are ready to care for an animal for its entire life, adopt with confidence. If not, it is okay to pause and reconsider.

Think of adoption like welcoming a child into your family—you commit to their health, safety, emotional well-being, and future, every single day.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Sterilisation

  • Vaccinations and deworming

  • Routine and emergency medical care

  • Daily care, time, and emotional bonding

  • Lifetime commitment and protection

When you adopt a stray animal, you become their world.

Adoption Eligibility

To ensure the safety and long-term welfare of our animals, adopters must:

  • Be 21 years or older

  • Have full family consent

  • Have stable housing (permission required for rented homes)

  • Be willing to provide lifelong care and medical support

The Adoption Process

Our adoption process is designed to protect the best interests of the animal:

  1. Submit the adoption application form

  2. Initial interaction with the foster caregiver / current pet parent to understand expectations and assess suitability

  3. Interaction / meet-and-greet with the animal

  4. Preliminary screening and house inspection

  5. Adoption confirmation and handover, completed only once the foster caregiver is confident that the adopter is genuine and prepared for long-term responsibility

After Adoption: What to Expect

Every animal needs time to adjust to a new home.

  • Initial fear, anxiety, or hesitation is normal

  • Trust builds with patience, routine, and consistency

  • Behaviour improves with love, security, and time

We encourage adopters to remain patient and understanding during this transition.

Post-Adoption Support & Follow-Up

Our responsibility does not end at adoption. We offer:

  • Guidance on care and behaviour

  • Medical advice during the initial adjustment period

  • Continued follow-up to ensure the animal’s well-being

Adopters are required to share periodic updates through photos, videos, or social media tags so we can ensure the baby is thriving in their new home.

Important Do’s & Don’ts

Do's

  • Treat your adopted animal as family

  • Complete vaccinations and sterilisation

  • Provide routine, care, and affection

Don’t

  • Chain, abandon, or neglect

  • Delay medical treatment

  • Adopt on impulse or as a temporary solution

A Gentle but Firm Reminder

Abandonment is cruelty and punishable by law. Adoption is a lifelong and irreversible responsibility. Please choose adoption only if you are fully prepared—for the animal and for yourself.
